Quebec's privacy law and your website: are you covered?

Law 25 is Quebec's law on the protection of personal information, and it applies to small businesses too. If your site has a contact form, you have obligations. Here they are, in plain words.

February 10, 2026The gist: 30 secondsComplet : 6 minutes
  1. Got a form? You have obligations. A name and an email are already personal information.
  2. A privacy policy in French, linked in every footer.
  3. A cookie notice if your site sets any, honest about what it actually does.
  4. A designated officer. In a small business that's usually the owner, and that's fine.
  5. Say where the data goes, especially if a tool sends it outside Quebec.
  6. If there's a breach: log it, then notify the privacy commission if the risk of harm is serious.
